I've been working with a publisher that was shocked when I told them that their 20% commission wasn't going to attract any business. Of course, they were also surprised that their prices were too low.

Testing is key to developing the right strategies here. When I first got started in this business, it was because a quality publisher to whom I was a very loyal customer began offering a 100% commission on his entry-product--the very product I first bought from him. I ended up spending over a thousand bucks with him, thrilled each and every time, so I instantly understood why he would do that. He was paying 100% of a $19.95 sale that I had bought for $39 when it was first released.

Existing clients like me make great affiliates!

Alex,

You are right on with the 90% commission.

As a consultant, I set up and run a number of affiliate marketing programs for my clients.

One question I always get is "How much should I pay for a commission?"

I always say "As much as you can possibly afford!"

I watched your affiliate program very closely this year. You provided great tools, contests and high commissions.

These things got affiliates FIRED UP to promote!

For your readers:

Which would you rather have...an affiliate that slaps a banner on their website and forgets about it...or an affiliate who goes the extra mile to tell EVERYONE they know about your products and services?

Follow Alex's advice on this one for long-lasting success.
