A Thanksgiving Post for 101 Teachers in My Life

I enjoy making lists.

The list I want to reveal to you this Thanksgiving Day is my Gratitude List of 101 Teachers who have influenced my life and reminded me of the importance of being a lifelong learner.

This partial list is alphabetized by first name. Many of my Teachers are still living and some have passed on.

I consider this a “partial” Gratitude List because I’m absolutely certain that I’ve overlooked lots of people who have had deep influences on my personal and professional life. Forgive me if you are one of those people.

If you’ve taught me something, but don’t see your name on the list, again please forgive my oversight and help me complete my list by commenting & sharing what you feel you’ve taught me.

Sound fair enough?

My purpose in sharing my 101 Teachers list is for you to create your own. I encourage you to make a list of your Teachers and share it publicly as a declaration … just like I did.

The simple act of writing the names and what you’ve learned will put a smile on your face and make you feel great.

Meet the “World’s Most Connected” Man

Ferrazzi Vote My friend, Keith Ferrazzi is acknowledged as “the worlds most connected individual,” according to Fortune and Inc. magazines.

What It Takes to Acquire “The Knowledge”

BlackCab It was a cold, rainy London morning on Monday, September 28th when I first learned about The Knowledge.

I was getting a tour of the city with a friend I met at a 5-day training when our London taxi driver suddenly began educating us on “The Knowledge.”

This education came after I asked for his candid recommendation about which London car service was the most reliable to hire. Our driver’s answer was immediate, simple and straight-forward.

“Anyone you see driving a Black Cab in London must pass a test called The Knowledge. The Black Cab drivers have already passed this test which demonstrates that they have an intimate knowledge of the streets in London,” he said.

“If you want to get to your destination faster and more reliably, just hail-down a Black Cab – like the one you’re in – and you will be delighted with the service,” he added.

It was a solid recommendation because the night before the taxi driver I chose wasn’t in a Black Cab and wasted twenty minutes of our time looking for a restaurant on a side-street he couldn’t find.

He obviously didn’t have The Knowledge.

The 2 Rules of Marketing: If you want superior knowledge over your competitors to win every marketing game you play, you must first learn two important rules. I teach my students these 2 Rules because they’re both critical.

On September 4th of this year, I flew in my marketing Team for a one day planning meeting.

There we were, sitting in my dining room waiting to eat lunch when Eric Lingenfelter, my web development director, asked this interesting question:

“What’s the world’s greatest ‘squeeze’ page?”

I thought about it. My other team members thought about it. We eventually went around the table with rapid-fire attempts to give the right answer.

But to every answer Eric kept shaking his head smiling and saying, “Nope, nope, nope, nope …” until I finally asked him what he thought was the world’s greatest squeeze page.

The 4 Most Reliable Tele-Interview Questions

Kolb Post1 Whenever I conduct a Teleseminar interview with a thought leader in my area of interest, I often lean on the four learning styles that researcher David Kolb discovered in the 1980s.

Your listening audiences typically fit into four distinct learning styles Kolb uncovered and they are: WHY learners, WHAT learners, HOW learners and WHAT IF learners.

Which of the four learning styles do you feel that you fit into?

Regardless of your learning style, I believe anyone can become a great interviewer if they focus on what Kolb’s findings over 20 years ago.

To make it easy for you, here’s the questioning sequence template I utilize in my own interview that is a trusted friend to inoculate me from embarrassment or and criticism from blowing an interview:

WHY is (TOPIC) so important for our audience to learn more about?
WHAT is (TOPIC) by definition?
HOW does (TOPIC) work in a step-by-step process?
WHAT IF our listeners utilized the strategies you are teaching us about (TOPIC), what would their live be like in 30 days, 90 days, 1 year?

Just fill-in your topic of interest where you see “TOPIC” above and you’re good to go!

You can also ask questions about obstacles or strategies or questions that are specifically relevant to your topic and audience. But the four questions you can’t live without are the WHY, WHAT, HOW and WHAT IF questions.

Worldwide Survey to Define “Abundance”

Abundance is a concept often debated in spiritual and entrepreneurial circles.

Entrepreneurs commonly use the catch-phrase “thinking BIG,” but they really mean the same thing. What I know most about the abundance mindset is that it is the polar opposite of the scarcity mindset.

The concept seems easier to define it by what it is not, rather than what it is.

I find it challenging to define abundance because it’s one of those unique words that must be experienced to really be understood, not just explained.

Self-esteem visionary Nathanial Branden once told me, “People want experiences, not explanations.” I believe that explanations are filtered through the mind whereas experiences are filtered and felt by the heart, which suggests that the abundance mindset is a process, even a daily practice and not just a moment in time.

The most encouraging part of adopting an abundance mindset is how it can connect you to people with totally different set of beliefs and values. It instantly sustains inclusivity even with people who are dramatically different.

POP QUIZ: What do Mother Teresa and Donald Trump have most in common? The answer is their abundance mindset.

Donald Trump says: “If you’re going to think anyway, you might as well think big.”

Mother Teresa said: “The more we discover the magnitude and abundance of God’s gifts, the more we will find ourselves.” Again, the abundance mindset creates connections.

What Al Gore Taught Me About Promoting Books

al-gore The specific incident I’m about to share with you took place on November 20th, 2002. My life changed that night as did the lives of tens of thousands of other authors and info marketers.

It was warm autumn evening in Corte Madera, CA. I was planning to meet a friend for dinner, but as I arrived at the restaurant the parking lot was packed. I parked my car several blocks away and began walking toward the restaurant.

Across the walkway was the famous independent book store called Book Passage. For some reason, it had a huge crowd standing outside the door that evening.

I asked a passer-by what was going on and she told me that “Al and Tipper Gore” were there for a book signing for their book, “Joined at the Heart”.

It’s not every day that a former vice president and his wife steps into my neighborhood, but my previous commitment influenced me to enter the restaurant and have dinner with my friend.

The entire time at dinner I was curious how for book signing was going for the Gores. What questions they were answering, how many books they were selling and what their new book was about.

On the way back to my car after dinner, I ducked inside the book store — which was now emptying—and asked the woman behind the counter, “Hey, how many books did they sell?” [Read more…]

Here are four questions for you to consider:

Q1: Do you own a business card?

Q2: Do you have a website or blog?

Q3: Do you maintain voice mail?

Q4: Do you send thank you letters?

If you answered “YES” to any of the 4 questions listed above, then your business is an info marketing business.

Granted, you may not “market information” for a profit, but you utilize information to market your business.

Wouldn’t you agree?
